The Monthly Magic — a newsletter for creatives, connection and momentum

There are endless things competing for our attention.

The Monthly Magic is about slowing down long enough to find the ideas, people and work worth actually connecting with.

Once a month, I’ll share creative thinking, fresh inspiration and people doing interesting things. Some of it might spark an idea. Some might introduce you to someone new. Some might send you down a creative rabbit hole you weren’t expecting.

And every month, we’ll make a little room for something you don’t get enough of online: actual connection.

Welcome to The Monthly Magic.

What you’ll find inside

A monthly note from one creative person to another

Things I’m thinking about. Work that stopped me mid-scroll. People doing interesting things. Creative rabbit holes. Recommendations actually worth your time.

A little inspiration, a little discovery and hopefully some momentum to go make whatever you’ve been thinking about making.

And each month, I’ll introduce you to someone I think is worth knowing.

Meet the artist. Discover the work. Keep a little piece of it.

Every month, Creative Connections introduces you to a different artist or maker whose work caught my attention. We’ll talk about what they make, what inspires them and a little about the person behind it all.

But I want to take that introduction one small step further.

Each featured artist becomes part of a limited, numbered Creative Connections art card, made especially for The Monthly Magic. The front features their work. The back tells you who made it, where to find them and a little something from our conversation.

A small number are sent, free, to members of the community.

One artist. One conversation. One tiny piece of art you can actually hold.

Why something physical?

I love that the internet lets us discover more creative work than ever. But there’s something different about holding it in your hands.

Creative work moves quickly online. You see something beautiful, think I love that and two seconds later you’re looking at something else. Creative Connections is my little experiment in making that connection last longer.

  • Maybe the card gets pinned above your desk.
  • Maybe you look up the artist and discover the rest of their work.
  • Maybe you buy something from them someday.
  • Maybe their work sparks something in your own.

The card is a tiny piece of art.
The connection behind it is the point.

How do I get an art card?

Here’s where you get to participate.

When each Creative Connections feature drops, I’ll have a small number of that month’s numbered cards ready to send out. But this isn’t about refreshing your inbox fast enough to click first.

I want to know what connected with you. Maybe what you loved about the artist’s work. Maybe something they said. Maybe what you’re making yourself.

Answer the question and you’ll have a chance to receive that month’s card.

No purchase. No giant giveaway. Just a little interaction that gets us talking about creativity instead of scrolling past it.

Are you an artist?

I want to see what you’re making

Painter. Photographer. Illustrator. Designer. Ceramicist. Collage artist. Printmaker. Maker. Someone creating something I don’t know how to categorize yet.

Send it my way.

You don’t need a huge following, an impressive client list or a perfectly polished portfolio. I’m interested in interesting people making interesting things.

If you’re selected, we’ll talk about your work and your process and choose the piece that becomes that month’s card. I’ll design and produce them. Your work stays yours, you’ll approve how it’s represented and you’ll get some cards for yourself too.

Share your work

Know someone whose work deserves more eyes on it? Send them my way too.

Do I have to be an artist to belong here?

Nope. You don’t need Creative Director, Designer, Photographer, Writer or Artist in your title.

If you’re curious, if you make things, if you appreciate people who do or if you just want a little more creativity in your life, you’re invited.

How often will I hear from you?

Once a month. That’s the Monthly part.

No daily emails. No inbox takeover. Just one thoughtful issue with ideas worth thinking about, people worth discovering and hopefully something that makes you want to create.

One more thing…

The Monthly Magic is new. And I actually like that. You’re not joining after everything has already been figured out. You get to help shape what this becomes.

I’d rather start small, stay curious and see what happens when a bunch of creative people start sharing what they’re finding and making.

Let’s make a little magic.
